March is Frozen Food Month. Throughout the month, the food industry celebrates the superior taste, convenience and nutritional value of frozen food.

With many grocery stores featuring specials in the frozen food aisles, this is a great time to stock up on family favorites or to try out new items.

Look for Sister Schubert's Homemade Rolls in your grocer's freezer section.

We often take modern conveniences for granted. But can you imagine life today without a refrigerator or freezer? These appliances allow us to store food at the height of freshness and then serve it to our families at our convenience.

Frozen foods were relatively new when my grandmother, Leona Henderson Wood, was a young woman. A quick-freezing method that retains the taste, texture, color and nutritional value of frozen food was invented only 85 years ago. And home freezer units didn’t begin making their way into American Homes for another 15 years.

Like most women of her day, Grandmother Wood cooked almost every meal – including bread – from scratch. I’ll always be grateful that she was still making her wonderful Parkerhouse style yeast rolls when I was a girl, and that she passed her skill to me.

I’m also grateful for the flash-freezing process that allows us to share the home-baked taste and quality of Sister Schubert’s Homemade Rolls with families across the United States. They are still baked according to Grandmother Wood’s heirloom recipe, with quality ingredients like fresh eggs, butter and whole milk – and never any preservatives!

The rolls are placed in the pan by hand and partially baked before they are flash-frozen and sent to grocery stores around the country. Once you take them home, they can be ready for the table in under half an hour.

Until next time,

sister
