Sunday Dinner: Winner of the July Sister Schubert’s Quality Time Story Contest
It’s been such a pleasure to read the wonderful stories submitted in our Quality Time Story Contest. Many of them bring to mind the special memories I’ve shared with my own family.
While I was growing up, I always looked forward to the end of the weekend because it meant Sunday Dinner at my grandmother Gommey’s house. I can almost still smell the hot rolls served fresh from the oven and hear the hubbub of conversation as we took our places at the dinner table.
What a delight it was to learn how Sister Schubert’s Rolls are becoming a tradition in Jennifer Causby’s family.
Sunday Dinner

“When I was growing up, we would travel to my grandparent’s house every Sunday along with my other cousins, aunts and uncles to have Sunday dinner. My grandmother would always spend all morning in the kitchen to prepare us a fabulous lunch. Sometimes, she even starts to prepare food on Saturday. She had always worked so hard to make the secret family recipe for yeast rolls. It was very time consuming, but they were well worth it.
Now that I am grown, my husband and I were visiting friends for dinner and as soon as I bit down into the yeast roll, memories of my Grandmother hit me. My husband also realized that the taste was just like my Grandmother’s homemade rolls.
While visiting them the next week, I took a package of Sister Schubert’s rolls that I had already made, and did a switcheroo with my Grandmother’s batch. No one could tell the difference, my Grandmother was the only one who knew the secret.
Now, we both keep the secret of the Sister Schubert’s rolls, as it saves my Grandmother so much time in the kitchen and my family enjoys them all of the same. It will definitely be one family secret I will pass down for generations to come.”
By saving time in the kitchen, Sister Schubert’s Rolls create more time for the family to spend together. No wonder my grandmother called them Everlasting Rolls!
Until next time,![]()
