New Sister Schubert Cookbook features easy family recipes, raises money for foster home in Ukraine
My new book, Cast Your Bread Upon the Waters, is on the presses!
I’ve poured my heart and soul – along with generous helpings of
delicious family recipes – into the 180 pages of this glossy hardcover
cookbook, which resonates with the comfort of family and food that I
learned from five generations of great cooks.
The book tells the story of how I started Sister Schubert’s Homemade
Rolls based on my grandmother Leona Henderson Wood’s heirloom recipe
for “Everlasting” yeast rolls, along with the title to my wood-paneled
station wagon and a lot of elbow grease. And of how Sister Schubert’s
grew from a tiny, home-based company into a national brand with three
state-of-the-art bakeries and hundreds of employees.
It also links my Alabama heritage with a new chapter in our lives –
our Ukrainian-born adopted son, Aleksey, and the foster family home
that we established in his honor.
Proceeds from Cast Your Bread Upon the Waters will benefit the Barnes
Family Foundation and Sasha’s Home in Gorlovka, Ukraine, which
provides a warm and loving temporary home for 40 abandoned children.
I’ll be doing book signings beginning in a couple of weeks, but
there’s still time to order your autographed copies on the www.castyourbreaduponthewaters.com
Web site for the discounted price of $35 (retail $40). Just place
your order by September 15.
I’m looking forward to talking about recipes for cooking, life and
success with many of you in the weeks ahead.
Until next time,
