Sister Schubert Shares Hearty Fall Recipes at National Harvest Festival in Branson, Missouri

Isn’t autumn a wonderful time of year? There’s so much to appeal to our senses. We’re invigorated by cool days and crisp nights. The turning, falling leaves weave red-and-gold tapestries across the horizon and lay rustling patchwork quilts beneath our feet.

All of this awakens a hunger for hearty comfort food, which always tastes better with homemade yeast rolls or another homemade bread.

Missouri’s Ozark Mountains offer spectacular fall scenery at every turn. So you can imagine my excitement about heading to Branson for a guest cooking appearance at Silver Dollar City’s National Harvest Festival.

On October 24th and 25th, Chef Debbie and I shared secrets of great home-style cooking and baking through two complete menus – “Cowgirl Cuisine” and “The Great Chili Roundup.”

We made my Sister’s Southern Cornbread to accompany the meals, and Sister’s Cinnamon Bread Pudding for dessert. This quick and delicious bread pudding recipe is made with Sister Schubert’s Cinnamon Rolls.

I also signed copies of my new book, Cast Your Bread Upon the Waters, which contains both recipes.

If you’re looking for more inspiration for hearty fall meals, take a look at George’s Chili, a family favorite created by my husband, and my recipes for Chicken Pot Pie with Bread Topping and Chicken and Sausage Gumbo.

Until next time,
