FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 20, 2009

Watch for Cooking segments across the South and Midwest this spring as Alabama's own Sister Schubert promotes company contests and her new book

LUVERNE, Ala. – Patricia "Sister Schubert" Barnes, founder of Sister Schubert's Homemade Rolls, kicked off her spring media tour of the South and Midwest with an appearance on WRBC-TV Fox Channel 6 Morning News in Birmingham, Ala.

Barnes chatted with WRBC Morning Anchor Tiffany Bittner on April 19 while preparing her sons' favorite dessert, Lemon-Blueberry Trifle, made with Sister Schubert's Blueberry Rolls.

"Spring is here and summer is on its way. This is the time when families and friends are gathering together for cookouts, reunions and other celebrations," Barnes said. "I am thrilled to be sharing some of my family's favorite recipes with everyone while visiting the great cities of the South and Midwest."

Through June, Barnes will be traveling to showcase her latest creation—a new coffee-table book entitled, Cast your Bread Upon the Waters. The book includes some of her most treasured recipes – including the signature Sister Schubert's Parker House style yeast roll recipe – as well as the inspirational story of how, as a single mother of two, she founded the home-based bakery that became Sister Schubert's Homemade Rolls. Proceeds from book sales will fund Ms. Barnes' charitable work through the Barnes Family Foundation. The book can be ordered through >www.castyourbreaduponthewaters.com and will be available later this summer.

Barnes will also promote Sister Schubert's Mother's Day Story Contest and On a Roll Recipe Contest. She will announce the winner of the Mother's Day Story Contest, which runs through May 6, live on WAKA-TV Montgomery, Ala., on May 8. The winner will receive a $500 gift card and a large Sister Schubert's gift basket.

The On A Roll Recipe contest runs through May 31. The winner will receive four Frigidaire Professional Series kitchen appliances. First-prize winners in four categories will receive $1,000 each.

Barnes' next stop will be in Knoxville, Tenn. on April 23, where she will appear in a cooking segment between 4 and 5 p.m. on WBIR-TV NBC Channel 10's "Live at Five" news program. Upcoming tour dates include:

  • April 28: Ann Varnum Show on WTVY-TV CBS Channel 4 in Dothan, Ala.
  • May 8, 6-7 a.m.: WAKA-TV CBS Channel 8 in Montgomery, Ala.
Additional media tour dates will be announced as they are confirmed.
